FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK BY AARON MUIRHEAD QLD GOLF INDUSTRY AWARDS FOR 2015 It is with great pleasure that I congratulate all those that nominated for the awards that were presented by the PGA, Golf Qld, QGCSA and GMAQ on Thursday, 10 March 2016 at the Jupiter’s Casino. An excess of 400 people supported the event and it was a wonderful night to recognise those in our industry that have made massive contributions at both club and industry level. Albeit all nominees were very worthy winners, unfortunately, there can only be one that collects the award. The GMAQ awards for 2015 went to: GMAQ Manager of the Year - Charlie McGill (Maroochy River GC) GMAQ Golf Club of the Year - Headland GC GMAQ Golf Club Employee of the Year - Lynda Simonds (Carbrook GC) GMAQ Golf Club Board Member of the Year - Michael Moore (Maroochy River GC) There were 2 more very special award recipients announced on the night: QLD Golf Industry Services to Golf Award - Max Mason QLD Golf Industry Supplier of the Year - Schweppes Congratulations to all those nominated for awards. The award panel deliberated for some time over these prestigious awards as all nominees were very worth winners. EDUCATION The first GMAQ FREE education session for 2016 was held on 12 April 2016 at the Nudgee Golf Club. The day was purely designed for education only where GMAQ members, guest managers and board members attended an educational session focused on Organisational Change and Managing Human Resources. The Organisational change session, presented by Dixon Wohlsen Strategies, Simon Parker, was focused on the fundamental strategies that clubs can adopt so that the organisation remains relevant in a changing environment. We heard how organisations that are able to manage change well, will maintain productivity and relevance over time and why failure to do so may render an organisation dysfunctional, unproductive and irrelevant. The second part of the educational session was delivered by Wally Lee from Club Queensland who identified relevant workplace issues and the best way for the club and management to deal with the issues. Wally also provided case study information on relevant court verdicts and potential ways that these outcomes may have been eliminated. Based on the excellent feedback and attendance at this event, GMAQ will provide more session that are focussed on specific issues faced by our industry.
