GMAQ - Golf Management Australia Queensland Autumn 2016 | Page 20

CAPTAIN’S REPORT BY CAMERON HARVEY 2 015 finished off with the Match play and Von Nida events being decided at the Christmas break-up day at Burleigh GC. A small number only attended the day, but those that did, had a good time and the results were impressive (especially the Match play). Dudley Von Nida Our esteemed President, Aaron Muirhead, took out the Dudley Von Nida in 2015. Another tight year and there seems to be a very close correlation with the more regular attendees taking out this event each year. The extra point for attendance makes the difference as the points for coming 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the golf is usually evenly spread. Presentation of the event was at the GMAQ Executive Day at Maroochy River in March. Brett was never in control going into the second nine but hung in and with five holes to play and being three down, the addition of a couple of shots as well as some impressive driving, saw him claw back and take the title. Thanks go to Ian Cottle at Burleigh Golf Club for hosting the final and preparing the course in a great state. The 2016 draw is out and if you find that you can’t regularly attend the scheduled GMAQ days, then I ask that you please organise your match to be played outside these days. The draw has played-by dates on it so forfeits will be awarded if players don’t turn up to events, but their opponents do. A field of 70 players took to the course under relatively warm but good conditions. The wind, which can be a very strong hazard at Maroochy River, was kind and the course was in excellent condition. GMAQ Match play The 2015 Match play championship was taken out by another esteemed gentleman and Board member, Brett Holland. The final, played against Andrew Webb, was played in terrific spirit and both players gave it their all with a spectacular finish down the 19th hole after an Eagle, which sent it into extra holes. The scores still reflected a hard day out for some, but not all! Ashgrove Golf Club took out the E.C. Coker Trophy and it was great to have Ted Coker there at the event to present his trophy yet again. The trophy goes to the best aggregate team score from the two 4BBB cards for each club. Michal Ronan and his Ashgrove team won narrowly from Ian Cottle and the Burleigh 20  WWW.GMA.ORG.AU team, who have previously won this event. The best 4BBB score of the day went to Geoff Kuehner (Brisbane GC) and Phil Laurie (MiClub). A special thanks go to Charlie McGill and his Board for allowing the event to be held at Maroochy River. Benchmarking The Benchmarking Tool continues to grow in relevance as more and more data is being populated. In Queensl [
