The BIGGEST impact in WORLD WAR II: USA OR THE USSR?
BY: Johana Pedro
While fighting in the war the USSR took out three quarters of the Nazi
army
1. The USSR was responsible for the 1939 Nazi Soviet non-aggression pact, allowing Germany to take over Poland and did not involve itself until Germany broke the pact and attacked the USSR in hopes to conquer the USSR.
2. It was the USSR’s commissioner of foreign affairs who first warned that the Nazi were a threat to European peace in 1933. The other countries would soon face the consequences of not listening to him and taking out the Nazis leader before he got too powerful.
3. The USSR lost an estimated 25 million soldiers at the eastern front fighting with Germany, and by fighting longer in the war, the USSR took the bigger death toll, saving America from even higher death rate.
4. While fighting in the war, the USSR took out three quarters of the Nazi army, defeating the most amount of soldier by a landslide compared to the other Allied nations.

Both countries had many pros and cons on their affect towards the war. Some may have had a more positive impact than others, but it still helped in winning the war. Many have said that the USSR has paid the price for starting all of it and having a pact with Germany. They lost millions of their soldiers, and many parts of their land were destroyed in the war. But it is certain that without them, the war would have had a downfall for the Allies without the manpower of Russia. Russia bought some time for America to join and greatly damaged Germany on the eastern front so that America could finish them off. On the other hand, without America, the Allies may not have had enough hope to finish the war and ended up losing it. Both countries have heavily contributed, but in the end who really did win the war? ∎
