Feeding America

America is faced with a problem that they must do something about.

795 million people in the world are starving. In America 1 in 6 people are facing hunger, and we must attack the problem at its source before we can go bigger and try and fix other countries problems. 15 million people in America alone don’t know when their next meal will be. We must worry about our own first.

American Hunger

According to worldhunger.org, there has been a significant decrease in homes without steady meal supply. It has went down from 5.6% homes to 5%. This is great progress, but there’s still so much to do. Though it’s not only on us to help, but the victims need to do their part too. Reportedly only 59% of food-insecure homes participated in the nation’s nutrition assistance program. The National Lunch program has helped 30.7 million kids who signed up for it and are enrolled in school. This provides them with a free hot meal.

World Hunger

In 2011, 7.6 million children alone died from starvation. Poverty is the primary reason for hunger. The hunger is the worst in Asia with 500 million people starving. America puts many resources and time and effort into feeding other countries through mission trips and world aid.

Although America sees itself as the big brother of the world, we need to take care of ourselves before we help other people. We don’t necessarily need to stop food aid programs to struggling countries but put more effort into feeding ourselves. Some may question the ethics of this, but the numbers of children starving in the U.S. is unacceptable.
