Global Link Fall 2013

Fall 2013 Newsletter A JOURNEY www.saworldmissions.ca Global Link From Syria to Jordan A personal message from World Missions Director Major Gillian Brown Welcome to our first edition of Global Link! Warm thanks for your partnership with The Salvation Army, specifically World Missions. No one wins when a country enters into a civil war. The Syrian uprising, which began in March 2011, has killed more than 100,000 people. It has also led to millions of displaced families fleeing from the devastation and chaos of their country. The Salvation Army, in partnership with the Lutheran World Federation, is responding in the provision of basic support to Syrian refugees seeking safety in neighbouring Jordan. In July 2013, approximately 500,000 refugees from Syria were registered as living in Jordan, and of this, only a small percentage were living in refugee camps. With the arrival of winter, The Salvation Army is responding by providing much needed gas stoves, clothing and blankets to refugees living in the northern cities of Ibid and Mafraq. A team is currently in Jordan meeting with community leaders, distributing provisions to more than 500 families and exploring other ways in which we might be able to respond. We are grateful to the generosity of our supporters which has made this response possible. For more information, or to find out how you can give, call 1-800-SAL-ARMY or visit www.saworldmissions.ca ΓΌ In the first edition of our newsletter, we share stories highlighting the achievements and the impact of our missions, from the crisis in Syria; to a life changing day care centre in Uruguay; to a Sponsorship Program in Zambia helping children learn, grow and build social skills; to a grateful thank you received from Bolivia, your generous support makes a difference! Thank you for linking globally! God Bless you! Major Gillian Brown Major Gillian Brown Director World Missions
