elebrating their 40th anniversary, San Diego’s
Ronald McDonald House first opened as a
“home away from home” for families with
hospitalized children. Their founders knew that
every moment matters to a critically ill child, from
holding hands with mom and dad before surgery,
to the soothing sounds of a lullaby that distract from beeping
monitors. Ever since, San Diegans have been volunteering
and giving to keep families together and strong during a child’s
medical crisis. Our community has contributed to profound
moments of connection, hope, and healing by keeping these
families together when it matters most.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego has grown with
20 GBSAN.COM | MARCH 2020
our region and now houses seven times more families than their
original 8-room location. Generous community support means
that approximately 3,000 people reside with the House each
year - families saved from the worry of where to sleep or how
to afford a stay away from home. Another 12,000 people come
to the House for naps, meals, and more during their child’s
hospitalization. These valuable daytime resources are available
free of charge, thanks to our community.

generosity and commitment of donors who give $1,000 or more
per year to provide these moments of comfort, compassion and
