1970s has a massive impact on fashion today, as there were many different subcultures like Soul, Punk, Funk, Glam Rock and Disco. This was when flared trousers came about and was a huge statement piece of clothing for both men and women. Glam Rock was a massive part of the 1970s, because this is when the androgenise look came into fashion, men and women would dress the same, as there was no set style for either of them, they would wear what they wanted to wear. Glam rock included lots of face paint and extravagant fashion. David Bowie and the band KISS were huge style inspirations for the Glam Rock era. We based our video on the disco subculture because we were all very inspired by the fashion as, there are still iconic pieces today that are around such as platform boots.
In our video, we decided to get clothes that we have today that are inspired by our chosen decades. For the 1920s, we gathered together a beaded dress, some beaded tops and some fur coats, as that is what they wore in the 1920s, however it is from fashion today. For the 1950s era, we tried to recreate the Teddy Girl look, we got some black jeans, leather jackets and some black converse. We also got a black and white stripped t-shirt, that was inspired by Elvis Presley’s song ‘Jailhouse Rock’, as this song was released in 1957. For the 1970s, as there were many subcultures we gathered together many different garments. We got some metallic disco pants, a floral patterned dress, a black Bardot bodysuit top and a silver mini skirt that were all mainly inspired by the disco era.
In my opinion, I think that our video informs the viewer very well about all of the different fashion styles over 3 decades because we included relevant information such as the different subcultures in each era. We discussed the different styles that are still very popular today, as well as how they influence garments today. I believe that the video gives a lot of information about each era to the audience as we explain each era and give our opinion on each era.
