Gilroy Holiday Parade December 6 — The Downtown welcomes the Christmas season beginning at 2:30 pm with vendor booths along Fifth Street and entertainment from 3 pm till the start of the parade at about 5:45 pm . At about 6:30 pm , Santa will arrive for the tree lighting ceremony and then be available for visits with Santa at Mango Street Kids , 7579 Monterey Street .
Holiday Lights December 5-30 , 2014 — Add more joy to your holiday season with a visit to Gilroy Gardens . Enjoy the millions of lights throughout the park , holiday themed rides , and delicious goodies . The Signature Holiday Feast will also be available . Henry Miller was a German immigrant who arrived in San Francisco in 1850 with $ 6 in his pocket . Miller didn ’ t have the money to rig himself out to go to the gold fields , so as he was a butcher by trade , he walked around until he found a job in a butcher shop . And that was the beginning of the largest meat company in the West of the US for the next 60 years .
The Red Barn at Christmas Hill Park was one of Miller ’ s barns . The Save the Miller Red Barn is a group of local citizens who are dedicated to preserving this piece of history . The City of Gilroy has the barn scheduled for demolition in 2015 .
