A website needs to be the hub of your digital
strategy; it needs to be constantly updated and
improved.

Is your business digitally savvy?
Why should I care about getting a website?
The answer is simple. More sales, more leads for your business. A website is a sales
and marketing tool that exists to serve a purpose. For thousands of New Zealand
businesses this purpose is to generate a result: more sales, more leads; more money.
If you are not being found online then you are losing money to those who are. Use
of the Internet in New Zealand has continued to rise reaching 86 per cent in 2011,
up from 79 per cent in 2007 and 83 per cent in 2009. (The 2011 New Zealand World
Internet Project: AUT University) 95% of online shoppers search the web for product
information, price comparisons and peer reviews before making a purchase online
and over 65% of in-store purchases are initiated on the web (PwC and Frost and
Sullivan, Digital Media Research, 2011)
1.9 million New Zealanders are now buying online and in 2012 spent, on average,
NZ$1,659 online; this is expected to grow by 14.9% compound per annum for the next
4 years. (PwC and Frost and Sullivan, Digital Media Research, July 2012)
The digital customer
Today’s consumer is evolving. They are digitally savvy, and it is not enough for your
business to just have an online presence. A website is not a silver bullet; you can’t just
“set and forget” your website, expecting it to do all the work for you. Your marketing
needs to adapt to today’s consumer. The storefront is no longer the only door through
36% Of New Zealanders have shopped online via
mobile devices during the past 12 months
12% Of New Zealand online shoppers have used a
tablet to buy online, double 2011.

July 2012)
To keep up with your customer, your website should
also be mobile friendly. Responsive design is a way
of designing web pages for mobile (smartphones
and tablets) and desktop devices. The idea behind
responsive design is that you design your web pages
so that they respond to the device that is viewing
it, no matter the screen size or operating system.
Google states that responsive web design is its
recommended mobile configuration, and even goes
so far as to refer to responsive web design as the
industry best practice.
