Curiosity Ellie Harrigan,11 Time seems to drag on. Usually, it’d pass quickly. I sit silently on the ground waiting for the time to come. Tick. Tock​. It’s nearing midnight. Only a few minutes to go. Midnight is the only time he comes out. The man in the painting. Tick. Tock. The clock’s hand moves towards the twelve as if it is being cautious, like the number is deadly. Ring. The small bell finally rings, letting the shadows know that it was exactly midnight. I knew what I needed to do. Enduringly, I get up and trample over the objects that have dropped onto the floor. My life has built up to this final moment. I need to find out who he is. News just in: 14 year old girl has left her home and hasn’t come back. Evidence suggests the only thing she had with her was a small painting of a man and nothing else.
