SUMMER 2011
Caroline now a Young Leader
The girls in my pack have been working on the Essex West
Chocolate Challenge, and this is a photo of the Easter eggs they
decorated. Lucy and Lola the two Brownies loved this activity and
couldn't wait to eat them. Next month we are going on a trip with
2nd West Thurrock St Clements Brownies to Cadbury World as
another part of the challenge.

lice Porter of 1st Collier Row Guides received her Baden
Powell award from District Commissioner Debbie Dodkins
in April.
Alice gained her badge while working with Brownies and
Rainbows as well as a number of challenges in Guides. She is
now a Young Leader with Brownies and also helps at Guides.

aroline Sunberg-Downey being presented with
her Young Leader qualification at 2nd Epping
Brownies pack holiday at Chigwell Row.
This is the first time a Young Leader has completed
this qualification in Epping.
Caroline has worked extremely hard for this.
In particular she has guided many new Brownies
through their Promise work, ran an aerobics evening,
talked the older Brownies through going to Guides and
generally helped to enliven the evenings.

"I volunteer" is a special award scheme run by BAA
Communities Trust to celebrate and rewa rd the many
volunteering and fundraising achievements of London
Stansted staff in their local community. Applications are
judged in four categories by members of the Stansted
Community Fund and as winner of the Best Volunteer –
Individual category Anne Sundberg-Downey was awarded a prize of £2000, to be spent on Girlguiding in
Epping.
"I’m really
delighted to
win the award.
The money
will make a
huge difference to what
we can offer
the girls of
Girlguiding in
Epping but of
course it also
means a lot to
me personally
to have my
own volunteering work
recognised.
I’m by no
means unique
in what I do
and it’s an
excellent way
to recognise
the work of all
of us within Girlguiding and raise the profile of what we
offer to our communities".

So we could be part of the Royal Wedding excitement, we decided to do the Royal
Liz Ball
Wedding Challenge badge from the Anglia website.
This kept the girls very busy. The first week we made a “Congratulations Card” for
the happy couple. This was highly decorated with many wishes from the Rainbows
and posted off to Buckingham Palace. Next came the sparkly tiaras, what a sticky
night that turned out to be! The end result was brilliant with feathers, gems, glitter
and all highly coloured, fit for any princess. The third week, we made some lovely
coin rubbing pictures and played a wedding relay race.
And finally, we made a placemat to have at our Wedding Reception Party;
this was laminated and kept safe for the big event.
Friday 6th May, which was also our 6th Birthday, was our main event.
All the girls and Leaders came dressed up in their wedding outfits, the girls looked
wonderful. The tables were arranged with a top table for the Leaders and three
lines of tables for the girls, covered with a union jack table cloth and balloons. The
hall was decorated with bunting and flags and there was a seating plan at the
entrance so the girls knew where to sit.
When they found their seat, there waiting for them was their
placemat and tiara they had made in previous weeks.
As it was such a special night, three Rainbows made their promise and two of our
leaders made their promise too. We all had a great night, can’t wait for the next
wedding!!!
