completed the Girlguiding Chief Guide
Challenge. This is the highest award before the
Queens Guide award. Emma worked her way through
eight challenges including; Community Action,
Creativity, Fit for Life, Independent Living, International,
Leadership, Out of doors and Personal Values.
The challenge was set over two years with each
area taking months to complete. For her leadership
challenge Emma completed the Young Leadership
award, working with Brownies and learning such things
as Safeguarding and how to run a Brownie unit.
Emma’s International knowledge was put to the test
when she was put forward to a selection weekend in
London .
She was successful in gaining a place on the World
Scout Jamboree and will be travelling to Japan this
summer. The Out of Doors challenge took Emma out of
her comfort zone not only did she participate in
climbing, zip wire, white water rafting and gliding but
she also took part in survival camps. “Camping in the
winter without a tent and cooking on an open fire in the
freezing rain was a challenge !” Said Emma. A first
Response course was also undertaken with the rest of
her unit as well as lots of community service.
Emma is a member of The Ongar District Senior
Guide unit 14-25. “The unit has had one girl complete
the Chief Guide Challenge in the past but others are
now making good progress to follow in Emma’s foot
steps”, said leader Veronica Riches. The Ongar unit
also have two other young ladies participating in
International trips this summer.
They will be volunteering in sch ools and clinics in
India and Nepal.
The Unit are looking forward to 2016 as Senior
Guides will be celebrating 100 years. The Ongar unit
will be joining with the rest of the country not only in
celebrating and joining in activities but completing
