We held a party and invited Brownies past and present to come and remember what a great 60 years we have had. We had an amazing turnout, with Rainbows, present Brownies and lots of our old Brownies who came to reminisce while looking through lots of old photographs, looking at our display of memorabilia (which included the very 1st register that was written when our Brownies first opened in 1949) and sharing our Birthday cake. Our Pack is very proud that we have only had three Brown Owls in all that time and it was lovely for the three of us to be together for this very special occasion. Rosa Manning became Brown Owl when she started our Brownie Pack. Chris Argent was one of Rosa’s first Brownies and became Brown Owl many years down the line. Annette Hammond was one of Chris’s Brownies and became Brown Owl a couple of years ago when Chris retired. As Chris still helps out from time to time and cooks for us all on Pack Holiday, this was an extra special occasion for her as she has been involved with our Pack for 60 years. We are looking forward to the 2010 celebrations and another great 60 years at our Pack. O he 7th Saffron Walden Rainbows and Brownies collecting for the RNIB outside Tesco’s in Saffron Walden . We managed to raise just over £450. T Pictured are Charley Logan, Isabelle Logan, Carrie-Ann Logan ’day from the 12th Hornchurch brownies who celebrated Australia Day by learning about the Country’s unique animals and their currency and flag, as well as making their own Emu’s and having a go at playing a didgeridoo! G Brownella Brownies hristmas came early to Corringham on Thursday 11th December 2008, when 5th Corringham Brownies performed their Christmas panto. “Browniella” was their version of the classic tale of “Cinderella”. Months of preparation had proceeded this night. A script had to be written. All Brownies had to learn their lines, learn songs and dances and find props and costumes and sets had to be painted. The Brownies enjoyed this preparation and earnt some badges whilst doing this. A few last minute hiccups ensued – our leading lady C went down with tonsillitis the night before the performance! Thanks to Brownowl’s daught2er Brogan who stepped into the roll and learnt the lines at short notice. On the night one of the Ugly Sisters didn’t turn up so Robin’s son, Brandon, stepped into that roll and Brownowl’s son, Carl, stepped into the roll of Narrator. The Brownies’ parents and family members turned out in force to see the show and it was ‘all right on the night’ and a good evening was had by all. Well done to all the girls. Juliet Conroy (AKA Robin) CANCER RESEARCH Very many thanks to every one who came to the Pink Party at Went House or who bought Tombola tickets at County Day in support of this very worthwhile cause. I was able to send a cheque for £600.00 Sylvia Partridge he 11th Romford (St. Augustine’s) Brownies, Rush Green presented Children In Need Night... On the 11th November we put on a show for parents based on The Good Samaritan and our brownie law ‘To help other people’ this helped us gain our entertainment badge. We all made cakes to sell which were in the Pudsey bear cake cases, and some of our pack gained their hostess badge by looking after our guests and making decorations for the hall (seen in the photo). We all had a GREAT time and raised a total of £140.00. T
