I
Dared
Microscopic aquatic droplets pushed me away from the ocean as if they were warning me of something. My soaking wet hair was dripping water all the way down to my feet. I was able to feel how the tiny sand pieces encrusted themselves in my toenails, exfoliating the surrounding skin. The fresh breeze was pushing me away from my desire, the ocean.
It was magical, the small waves crashed into the man-made seawall splashing every single creature that lived inside. The sea lions tried to swim as fast as they could, dodging the strong current, but still being smashed into the wall of the ocean. The sand bubbler crabs approximated the wave but knew that there was no time, and in a matter of seconds they were shoved away to the shore, hiding within their shells, from reality.
There was no one on the sea, it was just me, alone with them, the other creatures. I have always wondered why everyone evaded the salty water. It is the salted sea that gave me vigor and energy. He was calling me and they were roaring my name as if time was counting. It was at this exact moment when I remembered what my grandfather, a retired almirant, once told me. “I have traveled the world and the seven seas, and there is nothing stronger than him, Poseidon, and his world, the ocean. Respect them.” He also used to narrate me the God of the Seas’ myths, and it was this one phrase that stood up the most and never flew away, “I have sea foam in my veins, I understand the language of the waves.” What my grandfather told me that day, forced me into the water and pushed me into following my dreams, discovering the world in
front of my own eyes.
I was courageous and valiant, being the only person in the entire world defying the power of the aquatic god, while everyone else was inside, living the reality. I started hearing the voices, again. They were calling my name from the depths, tuning a cantus with a melody that was grabbing my feet and pulling me down. I felt into the shore, inhaling a mixture of sand dust
and sea foam. Those creatures under my body were drowning me. Their algae hairs were long enough to cover up my entire body and their faces
