Here I Go narrates the point of view of democracy inviting Mexico to adopt it. The genesis of this piece is somewhat different to most of my other pieces. Throughout quarter two, the idea of politics, democracy, and the government has surrounded me. The election of Donald Trump and my knowledge acquired from my MUN class inspired me to write this piece. It is as if the world has enlightened me with words to describe what I feel about current events and the reality in my country. Here I Go is a piece that evolved significantly. At first, I tried to write the biography of democracy explaining what are its principles and how it has changed throughout time. With peer feedback, revision, and editing, I was capable of changing this piece from sounding as a research paper into a majestic letter that represents what I feel. A specific modification that I made was that I changed it from a simple prose work into a letter dedicated to Mexico as a whole. In my opinion, this is one my best pieces done in quarter two. I believe that I was able to transcribe what I felt, speak up the reality, but also combine it with creativity, which I am proud of. A specific quotation I am pleased with is the following, “I encourage you to give me a shot, to hold me tight and never let me go, because I was sent to prove that humans are a social experiment. And you, Mexico, are part of this, as well, because here I go…” I like this passage because it shows that I was smart enough to get into the voice of an inanimate idea. I believe that my major weakness is that I wrote too many historical facts, which might bore the reader. Even though I enjoyed writing this piece, it has some flaws that can be corrected to make it even better. This is my risk taking piece because my goal was to write in the perspective of something that is not human and that is not physical alive in the world. I think I did a good job giving democracy human
characteristics to write a letter.
