Travelling to a store far away from your home, is in an out of town location. An out of town location can be a retail park. Retail parks can be located next to a carriageway and typically contain a number of large chain stores and super stores. Traditionally, retail parks were dominated by retailers of electrical goods, furniture and DIY items. However, in recent years there’s been a change, with retailers such as Boots, Next and even banks such as Metro Bank are seen on retail parks. Nowadays you also may see cinemas, bowling alleys and restaurants, this means that people usually spend their whole day at retail parks. Retail parks can offer convenience such as, free parking and so many options of how to spend your time.
In terms of benefits for retailers, retail parks include flexibility of space availability, free parking for customers, and often a wide variety of complementary stores, which can draw customers in to your store
Shopping malls are another out of town location for retail stores. Many people consider shopping centres and malls are the same thing, however I see shopping malls to be a lot larger than centres and have a wider range of retailers and shops. You would have large car parks at a mall and would spend either the whole day or 5-6 hours in a mall. Shopping malls have many different food options, ranging from fast-food, to expensive restaurants.
