INTOWN, OUT OF TOWN OR LOCAL?

Different retailers are either located Intown, out of town or local to your home. All of these different retailers in each location sell different merchandise, and attract to different types of customers.

There are two different types of high streets, local and in town. Local high streets have your typical corner shop or newsagents, either to buy milk that you forgot to pick up from your extensive weekly shop, or your daily newspaper before going to work.

Local high streets are for quick purchases that are located very close to your home. Local high streets are walking distance from your home and people never usually spend longer than 30 minutes in these stores.

In town high streets are very popular and are usually very busy streets. They are similar distance to a local high street, however depending where you live you may have to drive to it. In town high streets have more retail stores and shops than local high streets. People usually spend around 3-4 hours at their in town high street, this is because there are generally restaurants and cafes on these streets. You can also have in town shopping centres, shopping centres are smaller than shopping malls and can be connected to an in town high street.

If you take the Harlequin centre in Watford as an example, there is a high street that has many different stores and retailers and also a centre that is located on the high street which also has different retail stores and restaurants. These types of places people usually drive to because shopping centres have car parks and people would spend no more than 5-6 hours here.
