Era-s:

The video that was produced during the trip at the V&A, contained information on many different era's. These were 1950's, 1960's and 1970's fashion etc. Each individual researched different era's.

The 1950s continued the late 1940s style with very full skirts, cinched waists and sloping shoulders. Hats were either small pill-box styles or large brimmed, saucer-like hats. Hair was often cropped quite short and set in curls, or kept long and tied in simple chignons or ponytails at the back. The 1950's was a very interesting era as Daywear consisted of skirts and jackets or day dresses in tweeds and woollens. Dresses with pencil or full skirts were seen in either plain fabrics or floral prints.

On the other hand 1960's was a little different. Girls of 1960 were all about earth tone plaids and darker green shades, especially for fall fashion. Tapered plaid trousers paired with tunics or button down shirts were popular as were pleated skirts and bib-front and collared dresses.

The Civil Rights Movement of the recent past encouraged other groups to get at their own freedoms. A very known woman known by the name of Barbara created her own boutique. Barbara Hulanicki’s London boutique Biba experienced a sales boom, selling bell bottom power suits ( and smock dresses in saturated colours, all at affordable prices.

In my opinion, all three era's stand out from the rest as they are unique in their own way but especially the 1960's. This era is probably my favourite, as it's the most interesting. Teen fashion was incredible, over the course of the decade, the hemlines would shorten a little, a very little to just above the knee.

Also, featured stretchy tapered pants paired with patterned sweaters, oriental shirts, and tops with cute embroidery. Dresses that could be worn several ways with aprons and jumpers were also popular. As were slim skirts with tab details.

Lastly, the 1970's fashion was all about freedom, a variety of colors, eclectic looks and a tendency to mix and match different styles with each other. It’s the period of the simultaneous existence of several styles in the fashion industry and the decade when the subcultures of hippies, punks and bohemian chic style followers emerged. Early 1970s fashion continued 60's themes of Pop Art, and bold prints in bright colors and geometric designs.
