Over both the videos, there is information on the 30s, 50s, 60s, 80s and 90s- these were chosen based on the favourite eras of the creators as well as based on which eras they thought had the most significant impact on today’s fashion.
Here are some things I gathered from watching the videos:
I can clearly understand that the 1930s has had a massive influence on the eveningwear and gown industry. The glitzy, glamourous and sexy dresses of the 1930s has made sure that today’s gala-goer, prom queen and award-winning woman is looking as extravagant and as elegant as possible. Manipulation of fabrics was key in ensuring the female figure was enhanced and appreciated and this is still an important factor in nearly all evening gowns today.
The first video demonstrates a passion for the 1980s, and, based on what I’ve seen, it’s due to the endless amount of exciting and diverse subcultures and trends, for example the New Romantics, the ‘casuals’ and the trend of leisurewear.
I also learnt that the 1960s has a very strong impact on fashion right now; GoGo-styled boots are a popular trend especially amongst young women, bold prints, patterns and colours are being seen in the rebranding of companies (such as Warehouse) and are appearing in collections across both high street and high end stores right now. The mini skirt is also another piece which is still extremely popular, but, then again, it is a timeless garment and will not go out of fashion anytime soon! I think that the creators chose to talk about the 60s because of how influential it is right now in fashion and because how the era was all about having fun with fashion and being bright and bold.
Overall I think that both videos are greatly informative however the second video which discusses the key trends of the eras could be a little more ‘spicey’; maybe adding some pictures would make it a little more engaging as well as informing the reader on why and how these styles came about. Other than that, the videos are both enjoyable and educational- definitely worth the watch!
