GET THE LOOK 1 | Page 34

History of fashion & fashion now

Believe it or not, each and every fashion item released today has been inspired by something in the past; fashion history plays a huge role in the creation of the most trendy and sought-after garments in today’s industry- yes that includes the intensely distressed Boyfriend jeans from Topshop and the adorable badge-covered denim jackets and skirts from Zara.

The team at STYLIST have taken an interesting and relatable approach to communicate and demonstrate the ways that the history of fashion is incorporated into the fashion industry today and how you can achieve different looks from different eras in a more modern and chic way. They did this through two videos; the first video is a very interesting visual which clearly shows different outfits which represents different eras and subcultures of the past. The second video is a short clip which directly discusses the key elements of their chosen eras and how these trends and styles link to the industry today.

Although both videos use effective and alternative methods to inform the readers of STYLIST, my preference would be the visual ‘Get the Look’ video-mainly because it is more exciting and interesting to watch; it really captures the way that modern fashion has been inspired by the past and how easy it really is to achieve a classic look of an era or subculture with a stylish edge which is adapted to today’s fashion culture. The video involves taking the viewer through different eras over time and the perfectly-selected music samples reinforces the impact of the message being portrayed.
