If There Had Never Been Racism

Princella Howard Dixom

If There Had Never Been

Racism, who would I be?

No colored water fountains

In my past, and by George,

No one standing and blocking

The path, who would I be?

No one running along the

Sidewalk forcing me to

Choose whether to cross

Before the crosswalk, who

Would I be? No Freedom

Songs, or threats of jail, just

Who would I be? Without

Having to abide

Lines and

Divides

Really,

Who

Would

I

Be?

Who knows?

Maybe I would

Have to put my

Dream on the shelf,

Maybe even,

Hider under a

Pointed white sheet

Down

To my feet,

No

Black bluesy

Rhythm,

No

Gospel

Beat,

And no life Overcoming Feats or

Challenges to meet,

Who would I

Be?
