Parole's Historic Offender Engagement
The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) and Board of Corrections recognized the State Board of Pardons and Paroles for the historic prison tour that was completed this year.
The Parole Board Members and staff visited all ninety-one (91) facilities in Georgia which house state offenders. This included state prisons, GDC Transitional Centers, and Treatment Centers as well as county and private prisons.
The Board's effort reinforces its commitment to informed decision-making, offender accountability, and public safety.
The unprecedented effort provided Board officials with firsthand insight into facility operations, offender programming,
and the dedicated work being performed by correctional professionals across Georgia.
During each visit, Board Members and leadership met with offenders in both group and individual settings, discussing the parole process, documenting information for case files, and encouraging participation in rehabilitative programming. The consistent message delivered at every facility was for offenders to complete programming, follow institutional rules, demonstrate positive behavioral change, and prepare for a successful future.
GDC Commissioner Tyrone Oliver presented the Georgia Parole Board with a custom wood plaque marking the achievement during the Board of Corrections meeting.
