Georgia Parole Review Summer 2023
Summer Engagement Opportunties Continued Engaging Parole Stakeholders
The "Parole 101" presentation details and explains Georgia's parole process.
Georgia Wardens are valuable stakeholders in the parole process. Board Chairman Terry Barnard and Members Meg Heap and Tim Ward engaged Georgia prison officials at the Warden's annual conference in June.
“The wardens are key partners of the Parole Board. The wardens and counselors are the corrections staff who know the offenders best and their information is important if we are to make informed parole decisions,” said Chairman Barnard.
The prosecutor and the defense attorney are stakeholders in the parole process. Parole leadership again engaged these attorneys to ensure the Board Members remain fully informed regarding offender cases.
"An informed Parole Board relies on case information from our district attorneys. We believe PAC is a valued public safety partner for the Georgia Parole Board. State Parole Board's should be engaging the state's prosecutors," says Parole's Executive Director Chris Barnett, after Barnett and staff met with the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia in late July.
Meanwhile, the Georgia Public Defender Council benefited from a "Parole 101" presentation in July.
"It was a successful engagement opportunity for us and these attorneys," said Barnett.
They had good questions and it was an excellent learning experience for them. Our presentation will aid them as they represent their clients," stated Barnett.
