They gain a greater understanding of how they can directly engage in the clemency decision making process to ensure their communities voices are heard," said Barnett.

Engagement and education opportunities include all parole stakeholders to include crime victims through Victim Impact Sessions conducted by the Georgia Office of Victim Services. Crime victims are able to meet with a Parole Board Member during these engagements.

Offenders are stakeholders and parole leadership meets with state inmates and representatives to include the Georgia Public Defender's Council.

"It's important that we get the chance to engage and hear from everyone. Meeting with Public Defenders opens up a conversation where we can learn from one another and allows our Board Members to make informed, critical executive clemency decisions that enhance public safety," said Chris Barnett.

The Clemency Division leadership has been busy the first quarter of the year creating positive experiences for Georgia's future generations. Middle School and High School visits have been a part of the agency's engagement and education activities. Preparing youth for their future includes attending career fairs.

"High School Career Days are pivotal events that offer students a glimpse into the diverse professions available after graduation. By exposing students to opportunities, these events, in collaboration with state agencies, will continue to inspire and empower the next generation of workforce leaders," stated Crystal Moon, Clemency Division Director.
