Governor Brian Kemp has appointed Wayne Bennett to the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles effective March 5, 2024.
Bennett is a former sheriff from Glynn County, retiring from that post in 2012 after 20 years of service. He was a Glynn County police officer prior to becoming sheriff.
"I am honored to serve at the request of Governor Kemp. These first few days have been a tremendous learning experience and I've realized that the employees for the agency are truly dedicated to their roles and to doing their part for public safety," said Bennett.
Bennett fills the unexpired term of Timothy Ward who retired March 1st.
Bennett was sworn in as Governor Brian Kemp administered the oath of office in a ceremony at the Capitol on March 12, 2024.
Wayne Bennet is the first to serve as a Georgia sheriff and be appointed to the Georgia Parole Board.
During Bennett's service in Glynn County as sheriff, he was certified as a jail expert by Federal Court and the Superior Court of Georgia.
