Terry Barnard Finishes Career as the Board's Second Longest Serving Chairman

chairman making him the second longest serving chair in Georgia Parole Board history. Barnard served nearly sixteen years as a state representative prior to joining the Board in 2010.
Barnard served as Chairman of the Parole Board for three years from July 1, 2014, to June 30, 2017. He was then voted to be chair by the board members for six straight years from July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2024. Only Edward B. Everett, the Board's first chairman served longer as chair. Everett served from 1943 to 1953.
Barnard was first appointed to the Board by Governor Sonny Perdue to complete an unexpired term. Perdue then appointed Barnard to a full- term. Governor Nathan Deal gave Barnard his second full-term in 2017.
APAI Conference To Be Hosted by Georgia
Georgia is set to host the Association of Paroling Authorities International (APAI) Conference in May of 2025. The conference will bring hundreds of parole professionals from around the globe to Atlanta May 18-21, 2025. The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles is the host committee.
Executive Director of the Georgia Parole Board, Chris Barnett also serves as the Secretary for APAI.
"We will showcase Georgia for our counterparts and visitors from state and international paroling authorities," states Barnett.
"The conference will include many workshops and training sessions highlighting best parole practices. I guarantee those attending will leave having experienced the best APAI Conference they can remember," added Barnett.
The conference theme is "From Evidence to Action: Innovations in Parole."
