Engaging Offenders in the Parole Process
off
Georgia Parole Board Members and clemency staff met with residents at the Georgia Department of Corrections Atlanta Transitional Center last September.
"On occasion the Board has unique opportunities to be able to meet face to face with offenders. The information from these meetings is added to our case files which helps us to be fully informed as we make decisions in the most serious cases," stated Parole Board Chairman Terry Barnard.
Each offender in the custody of the Department of Corrections is interviewed at some point during their incarceration by a parole staff member. Parole case considerations for eligible offenders are completed electronically as board members review an electronic case file on the offender.
Executive Director of Parole Chris Barnett and Clemency Director Crystal Moon along with Clemency Hearing Examiners assisted the Board Members during their interviews of the offenders.

It's never too early to engage possible future public safety professionals. Georgia parole staff participated in the Liberty Middle School Career Week last November.
Liberty Middle School Counselor Lakesha Grooms says, "It's important that our youth are exposed to law enforcement in a positive way. The focus is to encourage and provide awareness of multiple careers within the criminal justice field. The parole staff were professional, and they kept our students engaged through their presentations."
The Parole Board's Human Resources Director Eris McKennon and Clemency Director Crystal Moon were present.
