Georgia Board: A Model for Public Safety
Georgia's Parole Board is often a source other paroling authorities seek information from regarding its operations and decision-making.
A reason may be the Board's consistent goal of enhancing its current processes. Executive Director Chris Barnett says new training is essential.
“As public safety agencies we must be continuously learning organizations, necessary to ensure we’re utilizing best practices," he stated.
Board Members and staff attended training sessions last October. Presenters included current stakeholders and criminal justice agencies to include the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, and the Prosecuting Attorney's Council of Georgia. The Board training also covered current decision-making practices.
The Board also holds operational meetings.
Board Members and parole staff attend state, regional and national training conferences to include training provided by the Association of Paroling Authorities International, the American Probation and Parole Association, the Georgia Professional Association of Community Supervision, the Georgia Prison Wardens' Association, and the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, to name a few.
Executive Director Barnett says these, and other groups provide important training beneficial to ensuring the State Board of Pardons and Paroles is always utilizing best practices.
