Governor Brian Kemp has appointed Joyette Holmes to the State Board of Pardons and Paroles.
Joyette Holmes was sworn-in as a member of the State Board of Pardons and Paroles by Board Chairman Terry Barnard at the January 2024 operations meeting.
Holmes of Cobb County is an attorney, and has served as a defense attorney and previousy served as Cobb County District Attorney.
“I am grateful as well to the Governor for the appointment, grateful for him believing me to be a good addition to this board and to this team that does so much work across the state,” stated Holmes during the board meeting.
“This board does such important work that revolves around public safety, and I look forward to being a part of the board’s decision-making,” added Holmes.
Holmes began her career as a Defense Attorney in the District Courts of Baltimore County, Maryland. She has served as the Chief Magistrate Judge for Cobb County, as an Assistant District Attorney, and as an Assistant Solicitor General.
Holmes fills the vacancy on the board created with the term of Jacqueline Bunn expiring December 31st. Governor Brian Kemp made Holmes’ appointment by executive order.
Chairman Terry Barnard also spoke about Holmes’ appointment.
“We are grateful that the Governor, with his power to search throughout the state and nation that he chose you. Everybody knows that you are a welcome addition. We will grow to appreciate and respect your work here,” Barnard said.
“Ms. Holmes has the background, and I can see is a person that with her experience and thoughtful approach will make decisions that are just and fair,” Barnard added.
