Fall 2022 & Winter 2023

"I walked away inspired and

motivated by their programs

and their people!"

“Georgia’s presenters were impressive, so much energy!”

The Parole Board and the  Georgia Office of Victim

Services  participated in a public safety career fair

at the Atlanta Metropolitan State College. The

National Organization of Black Law Enforcement

Executives, or NOBLE, hosted the public safety

career fair for approximately 35 agencies.

The Georgia Anti-Gang Network met in 2022 and

early 2023. The meeting of local, state and

federal agencies is focused on eliminating gang

violence in Georgia. Executive Director of Parole

Chris Barnett represented the Board.

"The partnership is critical to having safe

communities in Georgia. The information we

share across the network enables law

enforcement to combat these gangs and the

Board Members incorporate the information we

receive into the parole decisions resulting in a

safer Georgia to live, work and raise families,"

stated Barnett.

The American Probation and Parole Association's

(APPA) 47th Annual Training Institute in 2022 was

held in Chicago. Deputy Executive Director of the

State Board of Pardons and Paroles, Rita Rocker

led the Georgia delegation.

"It was an opportunity for our staff to collaborate

with peers across the country," stated Rocker.

The APPA Training Institute was held in August.

Parole also received training and presented at

the 2022 National Association of Victim

Assistance in Corrections (NAVAC) in Manchester,

New Hampshire.

Traci Lederer, the Victim Offender Dialogue

Coordinator for the New Hampshire Department

of Corrections says, “Georgia’s presenters were

impressive, so much energy!”

That was just one of the many positive comments

following the presentation by the State Board of

Pardons and Paroles and its Georgia Office of

Victim Services at NAVAC.

“The presentation provides a delivery model for

other states to replicate," stated Chris Barnett,

the Executive Director of the Georgia Parole

Board.

"I walked away inspired and motivated by their

programs and their people! I would love to see

this as a plenary or keynote presentation," said Jaquel Moody, Interim Administrator for the

Arizona Department of Corrections,

Rehabilitation and Reentry, Office of Victim

Services.

NAVAC produces training sessions for victim

service providers who work for state correctional

agencies and victim service providers such as

the Georgia Parole Board and its victim

services office, the Georgia Office of Victim Services (GOVS).

The Georgia Parole Board and Georgia Office of

Victim Services staff attended the National

Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) 48th

Training Conference in Denver.

Vice Chair Jacqueline Bunn led the Parole Board.

“The 48th Annual National Organization for

Victim Assistance (NOVA) conference exceeded

all expectations with the quality of the content,

the exceptional speakers, and the great

networking opportunities. This year’s theme,

‘Elevate Our Impact,’ inspired staff to reconnect

with the importance of victim advocacy and to

trace their individual reasons for being

passionate advocates. Victim advocacy is a

calling not just a job," stated Vice Chair Bunn.
