Georgia Parole Review Fall 2021/Winter 2022 | Page 11

Georgia Parole Board staff, including Chairman Terry Barnard and member Meg Heap, visited Central State Prison to get updated on the braille program operated by the Georgia Department of Corrections.

The braille program is a partnership between the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC), the Georgia Department of Education, and the Division of Special Education Services. The program provides accessible textbooks and other materials for visually challenged K-12 students in public schools.

The Parole Board Members and parole staff also met with the offenders in the program at Central State Prison. Additional information is added to some of the parole case files as a result.

Parole staff are contributing to safer roads by completing an advanced driver training class at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.

Parole investigators are required, for example to investigate parole cases and must travel across Georgia to collect offender case information. The advanced driver training is required and helps keep our employees focused on the road and the roads safe for all Georgians.
