“CATCH THE FUTURE ”ACTIVITY PLAN School İzmir Narlıdere Sıdıka Akdemir Science and Art Center Teacher Erkan ERDİK Class Grade 10 Lesson History Recommended Time 40+40+40+40 minutes Lesson Classroom, Garden, Museum Application Place Subject Conquest of Istanbul -Comprehend the reasons of the conquest of Istanbul. -Explain the consequences of the conquest of Istanbul in terms of Turkish and world history. -Explain the geopolitical / geographical location and commercial centre of Istanbul. -Realize the economic importance of being interested in the Straits and Silk Road trade. -Discusses the relationship between knowledge of foreign languages and increased awareness because Fatih reads many works about Eastern Rome and Istanbul before the conquest in their original language and educates himself before the conquest. Student Achievements -Before the conquest, the necessity of the shedding of powerful and large cannons called “Shahi” makes students understand that the state should have a high economic power. -Knows that building large and strong cannons to break down the walls requires advanced engineering and design skills. -Question the role of the conquest of Istanbul in the Ottoman Empire becoming an empire. -By examining the location of Istanbul on the map, he/she understands the strategic importance of the region and makes students aware of the concept of place and geography. -Understands that the Byzantine soldiers were psychologically affected by the attacking anthem during the conquest of the Mehter team and that the anthem was used as an instrument for the demoralization of the enemy. -Learns that with the conquest of the Byzantine Empire, the Middle Ages ended and [2017-1-TR01-KA101-037764] the “Catch the Future” Project under contract number Erasmus+ is supported by the European Commission.
