be protected and strengthened because it is one of our competitive advantages. In your opinion, what is the biggest challenge currently facing PF franchisees? We need to find ways to sustain the business model for the long term through a combination of remembering what delivered success to the brand while looking for innovation. Finding ways to grow revenue as the business matures while keeping costs low through buying co-ops and containing real estate escalations will be important. In your opinion, what is the most valuable benefit franchisees get for their PFIFA dues? As with any organization like PFIFA, the work gets done by the committees. The PFIFA legal committee collaborated with corporate to make significant changes to the Franchise Disclosure Document and Area Development Agreement that likely would not have been accomplished absent PFIFA’s existence. This single success is exactly why PFIFA makes the PF brand stronger. The FDD and ADA changes makes us a tougher competitor in the marketplace and will give us more strength to deal with competitors on the front lines. Although the legal committee work may be the most tangible, other committees are also performing at a high level and with lots of effort to deliver a competent organization to the franchisees. Examples include the marketing committee—collaborating work on the Visionary/ABC effort—as well as our membership, governance and finance committees working behind the scenes to build an organization on a solid, ethically sound footing. What charitable or community organizations are you involved with? We participate with the Cross Roads House, which is a homeless shelter in New Hampshire. What do you do for fun? We spend time outdoors with the family boating, biking, hiking and skiing. Tell us a little about your family: I live in Durham, New Hampshire, with my fabulous companion, Bridget and our incredible daughter, Maddie. Bridget works at UNH and Maddie is successfully navigating high school. What is your favorite exercise/ workout? My friends Ben and Pete (you probably know them) have a gym self-described as “the judgment zone.” There we torment each other, enjoy a little humiliation training and have a few laughs while we try not to age too quickly.
