Local Star: Celebrity Chef James Robinson of Kitchen Cray... Join The Movement!!!!
Hello!
I’m Chef James Robinson!
I was raised in Harlem, New York, and I’d say my passion for food and cooking began at 11 years old. I was raised by my grandmother, and I became inspired by her informal culinary skills.
My professional career began when I moved to Washington, D.C in 2006. I was hired to prepare upscale American cuisine as a Cook II, in which I was soon promoted to a Cook III, at The Grill in The Ritz – Carlton, Pentagon City.
In 2007, I took another position as a Lead Cook at the Blue Duck Tavern in Washington D.C., while working at The Grill part – time. At Blue Duck Tavern, I was influenced by a new style of contemporary American cuisine, which allowed me to further develop my culinary skills and become in tune with my own culinary style.
In 2010, I continued my culinary journey back in Manhattan, NY as a Sous Chef of Caribbean cuisine at Negril Village.
After one year, I moved back to Washington, D.C. and obtained a Sous Chef position at the St. Gregory Hotel, in which I delved into Mediterranean cuisine. I held two Executive Chef positions, one involving institutional catering at the United States Department of Energy and the other at Indulj Restaurant and Lounge located in the historic U Street corridor of Washington, D.C. at Indulj.
In 2013, I resigned from my position as Sous Chef/F&B Manager at the Washington Marriott International, to launch KitchenCray full time.
As a private chef, I have a range of interests and enjoy cooking many different foods but my favorite dishes are best described as “high end comfort foods” and modern American dishes. My current favorite dish to prepare is Roasted Lamb Chops with Jumbo Prawns.
