COVID-19 Response Programs
The San Diego Food Bank continues to provide food assistance to record numbers of families facing financial hardship
The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and its North County Food Bank chapter have been feeding record numbers of individuals and families since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 .
The Food Bank has pivoted to meet the increased demand for food assistance by establishing outdoor , drive-thru food distributions and large-scale , high-volume Super Pantries located in communities throughout the county that are open throughout the week .
The report below outlines the Food Bank ’ s efforts to provide emergency
Serving 550,000 people per month
100 million pounds of food distributed since the start of the pandemic
$ 17.2 million worth of food purchased food assistance during the height of the pandemic and while the families it serves continue to need help due to the lasting impacts of the crisis .
Thanks to the Food Bank ’ s generous donors , it has been able to meet the exponential increase in demand for food assistance from the tens of thousands of families impacted by this crisis . The community ’ s continued support is ensuring that vulnerable children , families and seniors do not face hunger in our community .
Distributed 12.6 million diapers to low-income families
35 Super Pantries launched July 1 , 2020 continue operating to serve Food Bank clients quickly , safely and with dignity

The theme “ Hang Ten !” was carefully selected by the event committee to honor the tenth anniversary of the Food Bank ’ s annual fundraising event . The event , which began in 2013 , has become a signature event for the Food Bank raising vital funds for the Food Bank ’ s mission .
Since 2013 , the event has helped raise critical funds to support the Food Bank ’ s programs , including the Food Bank ’ s Food 4 Kids Backpack Program , Diaper Bank Program and their COVID-19 Response Programs .
