Court documents allege that a Manhattan man killed his baby

MANHATTAN — Newly released court documents allege that a Manhattan homicide suspect killed his 3-month-old daughter .
The Manhattan Mercury reports that 25-year-old Andrew Gibson is jailed on first-degree murder and child abuse charges in last week ’ s death of Serenity Nichole Reich . Bond is set at $ 500,000 .
The affidavit says that a series of bruises and abrasions led a doctor to conclude that she was killed . The child ’ s name and relationship to Gibson wasn ’ t released previously . The affidavit says a doctor also found older injuries , such as partially healed broken bones .
She was rushed to a hospital May 5 after officers responded to a call about an infant who wasn ’ t breathing . Efforts to revive the infant weren ’ t successful , and the child was pronounced dead at the hospital .

Born in Howell County , Missouri , Nov . 4 , 1925 to John T . and Willa Rena Belcher , the 3rd child of 9 , whom have all preceded her in death but one sister , Norma Goodenough of Great Bend , KS .
July 4 , 1945 she married Henry
C . Yocham in Pratt , KS . He preceded her in death June 28 , 1998 . They made their first home in Colorado Springs , moved to Pratt for a brief while , and then settling in and around the Iola area until 1957 when they moved to Gas City . She remained there until entering Tara Gardens May 17 , 2012 .
Catherine was a loving devoted wife , a store clerk , nurse ’ s aid , daycare provider , homemaker and mother to 4 daughters : Rena ( Dennis ) Traw , Emporia , Carolyn ( Jack ) McGowen , Erie , Mary Ann ( Don ) Rehmert , Gas , and Uanna ( Dan ) Stotler , Iola . She had 11 grandchildren , 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson .
Family and friends will meet at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola at 10:00 a . m . Monday , May 16 , 2016 , for visitation before leaving for the Gas City Cemetery for graveside services . KANSAS NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

The Kansas Nurses Foundation is seeking applicants for nursing scholarships to be awarded for the 2016-2017 school year . The deadline to apply is June 30 . Criteria for applying for a KNF scholarship includes holding a cumulative grade point average equivalent to 3.0 and higher on a 4.0 scale ; being a Kansas resident and a U . S . citizen ; submitting a narrative statement about the applicant ’ s anticipated role in nursing ; providing three original letters of recommendation from a faculty advisor and employer ; and , securing a letter of acceptance to a nationally accredited school of nursing . Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply for scholarship assistance .

MEMBER OF KANSAS SWIM TEAM SUES OVER BUS ATTACK

ELLSWORTH — The mother of a Kansas high schooler who says he was sexually assaulted by swim team members on a bus after a competition alleges he needs therapy and has stopped attending the school .
The Great Bend Tribune reports that the lawsuit was filed Wednesday in Ellsworth County District Court . The defendants include the Great Bend school district and the parents of four students . The suit seeks at least $ 395,000 in damages and court costs .
District spokeswoman Jennifer Schartz says the district had no comment .
Two teammates have been charged with unlawful restraint and battery charges in the attack .
The lawsuit says the teen has been homeschooled since the Feb . 6 attack on the team bus . The Associated Press is not naming the mother because it would identify the student .
STERLING “ STEVE ” EDWARD SIPPOLA
Sterling “ Steve ” Edward Sippola , 95 , of Emporia , Kansas , died May 9 , 2016 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor .
Sterling was born on April 25 , 1921 in Fairport Harbor , Ohio , the son of John and Mary Paaka Sippola . He married his loving wife , Marie B . Bellamy , on March 10 , 1946 in Syracuse , New York . She died on August 31 , 2015 in Emporia .
Survivors include : son , Timothy Sippola of Emporia ; daughters , Annie Omens of Rancho Santa Fe , California , and Pamm Callan of Altadena , California ; as well as six grandchildren , Alison Omens of Washington , D . C ., Amy Joy Omens of New York , New York , Kelli Sippola of Washington D . C ., Christopher Callan of Hermosa Beach , California , Drew Callan of Altadena , California , and Devin Callan of Chico , California .
His wife , a daughter , his parents , and six siblings preceded him in death .
Sterling served in the United States Army in the Office of Strategic Services during WWII . His primary occupation was in door-to-door and real estate sales . Following retirement , his passion was the buying and selling of antiques .
Cremation is planned with a private service at a later date . Burial will take place at the Ft . Rosecrans National Cemetery , San Diego , California .
