you only need a couple of
inexpensive discs, there
is no cost to go play and it
has an easy learning curve
for people of all ages.”
Dynamic Discs has been
an industry advocate to
grow the sport. Every year
they spend time in schools
and outreach events doing
demonstrations to introduce people to the sport.
“The best players in
the disc golf world will
converge on Emporia at
the end of April for the
Glass Blown Open. We see
this as a great time to introduce families and the
Emporia community to
the sport,” Rusco said. “It
is our hope that children
will sign up for the Dynamic Discs Glass Blown
Open Junior’s Challenge
presented by The Emporia
Gazette even if they have
never played before. We also hope those families and
the Emporia community
will come out to watch the
Championship round at
the Emporia Country Club
later that day (Saturday,
April 30).”
All youth who sign up
will receive a players pack
containing all the discs
and supplies they need to
compete. Dynamic Discs
and The Emporia Gazette
will also host a free clinic
to help people learn the
basics of the sport and
prepare people for tournament play.
The cost of the tournament is $25. Juniors can
use the following link to
register at www.dynamic-

V
discs.com.
The Emporia Gazette
will ensure that each junior competitor receives
discs and related merchandise worth at least three
times the registration fee.
If a junior participant does
not have the discs to compete in the event, they will
receive them the day of the
event.
“With the players pack
providing all the tools
needed to play and the
free clinic, we hope there
will not be any barriers to
having families take part in
the Dynamic Discs Glass
Blown Open Junior’s Challenge presented by The
Emporia Gazette.” Walker
said.
The event takes place
on Saturday, April 30 at
the Emporia High Middle
School Disc Golf course.

This vehicle is equipped
with a cage for keeping

during transport. There
were concerns that the
cage would also need to
be replaced as it likely
wouldn’t fit a new van.
A new cage would prove
costly.
“We thought we were
going to have to go to a
newer style van which
would require a new
cage,” Cope said. “We got
to checking on cages and
they are anywhere from
$15,000 to $25,000. We
were able to find a GMC
van that is the older style,
it is a 2015. Road and
Bridge has assured us
they can make the current
cage fit in that van so we
won’t have that expense
on top of a new van pur-

Once new vehicles
are purchased the old
vehicles will be sold on
Purple Wave. The money
from the sale of the old
vehicles is them returned
to the capital outlay fund.
The commission approved the vehicle purchase plan as presented
by Cope.
The commission will
consider a road vacation
of Road 70 on April 20.
A public hearing will be
held at 10 a.m. on April
