A 7-year-old Americus girl was located and returned home Monday after she had been missing for almost four hours .

At approximately 11:13 a . m . Monday , Lyon County Sheriff deputies responded to 311 Elm St . in Americus for a missing female juvenile . Once on scene , the girl ’ s mother reported the girl missing at 9 a . m . when she went to see if the girl was still sleeping .
Deputies — along with concerned citizens — began searching the city of Americus . During the search , concerned citizens were calling in and reporting seeing the girl in various locations around town .
At 12:40 p . m ., a call came in stating the missing girl was at a residence on Orange Street . Deputies arrived at the residence and located her .
“ A young boy stated he knew people were looking for the missing girl and he found her at the city park , so he asked the girl to come to his house and had a neighbor call the Sheriff ’ s Office ,” Lyon County Sheriff ’ s Office Deputy Sergeant Danny Broyles said in a release .
The missing girl was then taken back to her home and returned to her parents .

Hoy lecture
The final lecture in the series on the Emporia Arts Center ’ s “ Imprinting the West ” exhibit is at 6:30 p . m . tonight at 815 Commercial St . Jim Hoy will speak on “ Origin of the Cowboy — America ’ s Folk Hero .” Free and open to the public . The exhibit remains on display through Aug . 11 .
ECKAN senior vouchers
ECKAN still has Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks available . ECKAN will continue to have a table at 5 p . m . each Wednesday at the market , Seventh Avenue and Merchant Street , until all the checks have been distributed . Those who are interested in signing up need to bring proof of their entire household income .
If an interested senior cannot make it to the market , they may call and set an appointment at the ECKAN office . If they cannot physically make it to the office or market , they can have a friend or family member call ECKAN for details on how to sign up the senior at 342- 4607 .
Final Kids Koncert
The Rockin ’ Rob Show is the final Kids Koncert for the Emporia Public Library , 110 E . Sixth Ave . The free show is at noon Wednesday in the courtyard .
The public is invited to bring lunch for the show . Water coolers will be available . In case of inclement weather the concerts will be held in the Little Theater , second floor , in the William Lindsay White Auditorium .

Red Cross Blood Drive

Call for volunteers
The Emporia Main Street Adopt a Garden program only has two gardens that have not been adopted . Salvation Army fans
The Emporia Sertoma Club and Sutherlands have provided 20 more fans to the Salvation Army to provide to families in need . Those who need or know of someone in need of heat relief may call 342-3093 for a fan .

Lyon County Democrats will welcome Kerry Gooch , Executive Director of the Kansas Democratic Party , as their keynote speaker at their annual fundraiser 5:30 p . m . Sunday , July 10 , at the Emporia Senior Center , 603 E . 12th Ave . Gooch ’ s address is titled “ The Value of Long-Term Investments .”
Gooch , a native of Wichita , joined the Kansas Democratic Party as Political Director in July of 2013 . He is a graduate of Kansas State University where he earned a degree in Political Science . Before joining the KDP , Gooch spent a year working in governmental relations , helping to institute a successful wind energy grassroots campaign and supporting legislation before the Kansas Legislature . KANSAS WHEAT HARVEST PASSES HALFWAY MARK

2 PEOPLE KILLED IN CRASH NORTHEAST OF TOPEKA

TOPEKA — Two people have been killed in a twovehicle , head-on collision just outside of Topeka .
The Topeka Capital- Journal reports 16-year-old Daniel Jordan Warner and 40-year-old Thad H . Hess were pronounced dead at the scene after the crash occurred around 6:15 a . m . Monday .
Lt . Adam Winters of the Kansas Highway Patrol says the pickup truck Warner was driving crossed a center line “ for an unknown reason ” and crashed headon into the pickup truck Hess was driving . Warner wasn ’ t wearing a seatbelt , and Hess was .
The crash occurred at a point where the road slightly curves . Winters says investigators are looking into whether fog in the area may have contributed to the accident .
The drivers didn ’ t have any passengers in their trucks .
Monday that the harvest this year is well ahead of both the 37 percent cut statewide at this time a year ago as well as the five-year average of 50 percent for this date .
Harvest activity extends across Kansas .
