at Didde Catholic Campus Center, 1415 Merchant

Proceeds support the John “Doc” Baxter Athletic
Training Scholarship and the ESU Athletic Training
Club. Takeout only, orders are $2 each or $20 for 12.

Howard Lilly
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN “BEN” WHITTREDGE
Melvern--Howard Lilly, 95, passed away on
Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the home of his daughter in
Burlington, Kansas. He was born on August 8, 1920 on
the family farm southeast of Melvern, Kansas, the son
of Clarence and Susie Cade Lilly.
Howard had lived all of his life near the Melvern
Community where he was a Farmer and Stockman.
He was a member of the Melvern United Methodist
Church, was a 69 year member of the Melvern Lodge
#22 A.F. & A.M. where he had been past Worshipful
Master, a life member of the Kansas Livestock
Association, a Committee Board Member of the ASCS
and had served on the Melvern Cemetery Board for
many years.
On December 12, 1942 Howard was married to
LaVerna Lewis in Topeka, Kansas.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerna
on November 6, 2009; by his three sisters, Audrey
Lilly, Vera Stevens and Ora Chadbourn; and by his
brother, Warren Lilly.
Howard is survived by his three daughters, Barbara
Pierce of Burlington, Deanna Anderson (Doug) of
Scranton and Jody Lilly of Prescott, Arizona; five
granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren and two
great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Howard will be held at 10:00
am on Saturday, March 26 at the Melvern United
Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Melvern
Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30
to 8:00 pm on Friday at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in
Lyndon. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Melvern United Methodist Church or the Melvern
Community Center, sent in care of Feltner Funeral

Benjamin Franklin “Ben” Whittredge, 92, Emporia,
Kansas, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Holiday
Resort Care Center, Emporia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March
28, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church. Mass will be celebrated by Father Brandon
Farrar of the church. Interment will be in the Admire
Cemetery, Admire, Kansas. Military Honors rendered
by U.S. Navy, Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion
and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign
Wars.
The Rosary will be recited at the Roberts-BlueBarnett Funeral Home Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M.
Ben Whittredge was born in rural Admire, Kansas
on August 27, 1923, the son of Roscoe “Ross” and
Edna (Rapley) Whittredge. He married Leona Marie
Brown December 27, 1949 at Emporia, Kansas. She
died January 7, 2010.
Surviving family members include sons, John

Whittredge (Beth), Hutchinson, KS, and James R.
