Corn at the bottom of
the grain elevator exploded
when exposed to the high
heat from the fire.
“There was popping,”
said an Allen resident. “I
thought it was bullets.”
Shortly after crews contained the grain elevator fire
an abandoned structure at
403 Main St. caught on fire,
just across the street from
the grain elevator.
“It’s probably one of
the oldest buildings in the
town,” said Michael Wilson
of Allen. “It’s kind of a local
attraction.”
