Storm Spotter Talk
Lyon County Emergency Management is holding a
National Weather Service Storm Spotter Talk at 7 p.m.
Tuesday at the Bowyer Community Building. Meteorologist Chad Ommit will discuss severe weather safety
at this free event.
Spring Break craft week
The Emporia Public Library is holding craft time
each day Monday through Thursday, instead of the usual story time. Families are welcome from 9 to 11 a.m.
for come-and-go crafting at 110 E. Sixth Ave.
Gardener talk
The Emporia Farmers Market and the Emporia Gardeners of America present Laura Odell of the Kansas
Permaculture Collaborative at 7 p.m. March 17 at First
United Methodist Church, 823 Merchant St.
KPC is a grassroots organization dedicated to
networking farmers and urban gardeners to develop
ecologically sustainable agriculture practices, produce
healthy food, conserve energy, share knowledge, skills
and labor, and create a resilient community. Odell will
talk about the KPC’s activities throughout Kansas and
how those in the Emporia area can be involved.

Scholarships available
Community National Bank & Trust ais accepting
scholarship applications from Lyon County students
planning to attend Emporia State University, Flint Hills
Technical College or a Kansas Regent’s Institution.
There will be three $1,000 scholarships available for
the upcoming school year. Applications can be picked
up at either Community National Bank & Trust location in Emporia — 701 Merchant St. or 1440 Industrial
Road. Applications will be accepted until April 1.
NARFE meeting
The National Association of Retired Federal Employees meets at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Pizza Ranch
3000 W. 18th Ave. Current or retired Federal employees
are welcome to attend to learn what this association
is involved with and about what is happening to their
benefits. Ron Whitney will speak concerning the All
Veterans Memorial Tablets of Honor Project.
ENOREE, SC: Christopher
Edward Lingenfelter, 46,
died March 9, 2016. Born
in Emporia, Kansas, he was
a son of J. Krystal Lee L.
Hinson and the late Darrell
Dean Lingenfelter.
Christopher was an
ace mechanic and a selfemployed carpenter. He
was a simple man with
simple needs, but a happy
person with a big smile,
displaying a great humor. He enjoyed rock and roll
