FLINT HILLS TECHNICAL COLLEGE
FHTC BOARD RECEIVES UPDATE ON HIGHER LEARNING COMMISSION VISIT
By Jessie Wagoner

The Higher Learning
Commission recently paid
a visit to the Flint Hills
Technical College and at
Monday’s board meeting
the trustees reviewed how
the meeting went.
“ They walked away
with a very good feeling,”
Dean Hollenbeck, FHTC
president said. “During the
exit interview they were
very complimentary of the
board.”
FHTC is accredited
through the Higher Learning Commission and must
apply for accreditation
every 10 years. This visit
comes at the four year
mark, leaving the college
another six years to prepare
for the next full accreditation visit.
“It was a great visit,”
Lisa Kirmer, vice president
of student services said.
“We should hear something
back within a month. They
did a brief exit interview
with us before they left.
They were very impressed
with what they felt was the
buy in and investment of
everybody. How invested
faculty and staff were in students and wanting students
to succeed.”
The college will receive a
report back from the Higher
Learning Commission highlighting strengths and, also,
areas of opportunity for
growth. It is expected those
recommendations will be
made within a month.
An open house has been
scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12
p.m. on April 2 at FHTC.
The open house gives members of the community a
chance to visit the college
to learn about available pro-
grams. Current students
are also welcome to bring
their family and friends to
show them their programs
of study. Faculty and current students will be on site
during the open house to
answer questions.
“We have had a lot of
success with this over the
years,” Kirmer said. “It is
just the first day for new
students to enroll in fall
and summer classes. A lot
of times, people are coming
out because they have never
been to the college or never
seen it.”
In other business the
board:
✦✦Approved a slight increase in tuition fees.
✦✦Received an update on
the culinary arts program
✦✦Received an update on
the dental hygiene program
