Grants are given to help support service projects that will engage volunteers. This is the fifth year Volunteer Kansas has made Seed Grants available. “We’ve found there are times when the absence of a little bit of cash is the only thing standing in the way of a group of volunteers taking on a service project that would greatly benefit others,” said Volunteer Kansas Executive Director Nola Brown.  “Volunteer Kansas Seed Grants help get projects started and ready to grow just like the seeds so many of our Kansas farmers use,”  Ten grants will be awarded in May for use before Dec. 31 of 2016. The application process is simple. Organizations interested in applying for a grant should email the following information to contact@volunteerkansas. org by April 17: ✦✦A paragraph about the organization, including contact information. ✦✦Up to three paragraphs explaining the project, how volunteers will participate, and who it will benefit. ✦✦A budget detailing how the $500 grant will be used. Projects chosen for grants require listings as volunteer opportunities on V www.volunteerkansas.org. Projects must utilize at least 20 volunteers. Winners are required to post project photos/videos to the Volunteer Kansas fan page on Facebook or Twitter #Comeandgiveit. 2015 Volunteer Kansas Seed Grant recipients and service projects included: ✦✦Galva Friends of the Trail (Galva) — bridge repair and bench construction. ✦✦League 42 (Wichita) — bleacher and dugout improvements at McAdams Park. ✦✦GracePoint Church (Wichita) — homeless outreach: Summer Bags of Blessings project. ✦✦United Way of the Flint Hills (Emporia) — summer learning program: Summer Climbin’. ✦✦Cowley County Economic Development (Winfield) — community barn quilt project. ✦✦The Volunteer Connection (Salina) — Fall Fix Up/Spring Spruce Up projects. ✦✦Partners for Wichita (Wichita) — Filling the Gap lunches for kids program.
