The curriculum for the
Network Technology program
is intense and spread over four
semesters. Due to the intensity of the coursework, it is one
of the few programs at FHTC
that doesn’t regularly admit
current high school students.

initially scheduled with
Dr. Christina Faulkner,
but she was on vacation
so Dr. David Kemp and
Trisha Hoelting delivered
the baby instead. At 10:13
p.m., baby Lakin Renée
Johnson was born. She was
7 pounds, 15 ounces and 20
inches long.
“It was amazing. I love
it. It’s like falling in love,”
said Johnson on holding his
daughter for the first time.
“I was just thinking, we
are going to have the kid
today. I knew I was having
contractions but we came
on Tuesday and I wasn’t
dilated or anything so to
come in on Friday and have
them say we’re going to
break your water and stuff,
it was go time,” said Sharp.
Sharp did not think her
daughter was going to be the
first baby of the new year.
“I really wasn’t expecting it. My grandma was
because I was actually on
the phone with her and she
has always wanted a New
Year’s baby,” Sharp said.
“She thought 12:04 so, you
know, 10:13 on New Year’s
still made it for her.”
