The delivery was initially scheduled with Dr. Christina Faulkner, but she was on vacation so Dr. David Kemp and Trisha Hoelting delivered the baby instead. At 10:13 p.m., baby Lakin Renée Johnson was born. She was 7 pounds, 15 ounces and 20 inches long. “It was amazing. I love it. It’s like falling in love,” said Johnson on holding his daughter for the first time. “I was just thinking, we are going to have the kid today. I knew I was having contractions but we came on Tuesday and I wasn’t dilated or anything so to come in on Friday and have them say we’re going to break your water and stuff, it was go time,” said Sharp.  Sharp did not think her daughter was going to be the first baby of the new year. “I really wasn’t expecting it. My grandma was because I was actually on the phone with her and she has always wanted a New Year’s baby,” Sharp said. “She thought 12:04 so, you know, 10:13 on New Year’s still made it for her.” Kendra Johnson/Gazette Lakin Renée Johnson was the New Year’s Baby at Newman Regional Health, the first baby born in 2016. Lakin was born to Tiffany Sharp and Nathan Johnson and was 7 pounds, 15 ounces and 20 inches long. Lakin has one older brother, 6, named Kyndall Johnson. He is the son of Nathan Johnson. Sharp and Johnson received a gift basket from the Newman Regional Foundation and the Auxiliary. It included a bathtub, a homemade afghan and hat, safety devices, a bath set and some stuffed animals. The couple also celebrated their anniversary on New Year’s Day.
