Landon Carson Swafford
of Melvern died Friday, February 19, 2016. at Midland
Hospice House in Topeka.
He was 91.
Mr. Swafford worked for
Joan Mounkes, age 87, passed
away on Saturday, February 20 in
Emporia, Kansas and went home to
see her Lord Jesus Christ. She was
born in Harveyville, Kansas, the
youngest daughter of Russell and
Mildred Akers.

’Soundmakers’ deadline approaches
Original designs for “soundmakers” made from found
objects or secondhand materials are due Friday, February 26. Designs may be mailed, along with the required
entry form, to 2802 Monterey Drive or emailed to [email protected].
The accepted soundmaker designs will be constructed
by May 15 and exhibited in downtown Emporia June 2-13
as part of the Secondhand Sounds project sponsored by
Emporia Celebrates the Flint Hills.
More information including requirements, timeline,
and entry form may be requested by calling 342-8806 or
emailing the address above.
Commodities
The Salvation Army will distribute Commodities at
209 W. Fourth Ave. from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m.
