Première biennale des photographes
du monde arabe contemporain

Cette manifestation est portée par deux grandes institutions : d’une part la Maison Européenne de la Photographie, ouver te en 1996 et dédiée essentiellement à la photographie d’aujourd’hui, et d’autre part l’Institut
du monde arabe, qui depuis 1987 se consacre aux multiples facettes artistiques et culturelles des divers pays
composant cette région. L’objectif de cette Biennale est de porter un éclairage sur les photographes contemporains qui opèrent dans le monde arabe. Beaucoup de pays occupent à divers titres aujourd’hui le devant
de la scène et participent à l’écriture de l’Histoire, mais on connaît de façon encore inégale leurs artistes. I

First biennial of photography in the contemporary Arab world

This event is organised by two great institutions : on one hand, the European House of Photography, open in
1996 and dedicated essentially to recent photography and, on the other hand, the Arab World Institute which
is dedicated since 1987 to the numerous artistic and cultural aspects of this region’s countries. The goal of
the biennial is to highlight the work of contemporary photographers who operate in the Arab world. Many
countries occupy centre stage and take part in the writing of History, but the exposure granted to their artists
