Festival Internacional de Ballet de Cancún
Cancun’s International Ballet Festival
celebrated its first edition this year,
which took place from May 5th to the
7th at “Teatro de Cancún”. El Festival Internacional de Ballet de
Cancún celebró este año su primera
edición, la cual se llevó a cabo del 5 al 7
de mayo en el Teatro de Cancún.
The Festival provided the opportunity
for ballet students from Mexico, Cuba,
Colombia and the United States to live
and learn in the friendly atmosphere
provided by the Mexican Caribbean,
as well as to obtain scholarships in
world-renowned ballet schools such
as Master Ballet Academy, Miami City
Ballet School, Cuban National Ballet
School “Fernando Alonso”, Quenedit
Ballet School, Rio de Janeiro’s Ballet
Company, Central Florida Ballet, among
others. Participants had the opportunity
to take master classes with renowned
figures such as Alice Arja (Brazil), Krista
King-Doherty (USA), Lourdes Arnau
(Cuba) and Adiarys Almeida (USA). El Festival brindó la oportunidad a
estudiantes de ballet de México, Cuba,
Colombia y Estados Unidos de convivir
y aprender en el amigable ambiente que
proporciona el Caribe Mexicano, así
como aspirar a becas en reconocidas
escuelas de ballet a nivel mundial,
como Master Ballet Academy, Miami
City Ballet School, Escuela Nacional
de Ballet de Cuba Fernando Alonso,
Quenedit Ballet School, Cía. de Ballet do
Río de Janeiro, Central Florida Ballet,
entre otras. Los participantes tuvieron la
oportunidad de tomar clases magistrales
con reconocidos maestros como Alice
Arja (Brasil), Krista King-Doherty (EE.
UU.), Lourdes Arnau (Cuba) y Adiarys
Almeida (EE. UU.).
The opening ceremony was held on
May 5, under the general direction of
Lis Ríos Vega and the artistic direction
of Mariangel Giraldo, accompanied by
students of the Ballet Clasico Cancún
dance school and recognized local
artists such as Quintana Roo soprano
Laura Chuc, flamenco dancer Lorena
Allende and guests from the United
States and the Cuban National Ballet
School “Fernando Alonso”.
On the other hand, the Closing Gala
took place on May 7, which attracted
great international and national ballet
figures to this city for the first time, like

dirección artística de la Lic. Mariangel
Giraldo, en compañía de alumnos de la
escuela de danza Ballet Clásico Cancún

soprano quintanarroense Laura Chuc,
la bailaora flamenca Lorena Allende e
invitados de Estados Unidos y la Escuela
Nacional de Ballet de Cuba Fernando
Alonso.
Por otro lado, la Gala de Clausura
se llevó a cabo el día 7 de mayo, la
cual atrajo por primera vez a esta
ciudad a grandes figuras del ballet
internacional y nacional, como Juliet
Doherty y Slawomir Wozniak (Phoenix
