Antares and Rho
Ophiuchi Cloud
Complex
A widefield image of
one of the most vibrant
and colourful nebulas in
space, and the closest
star-forming region to
the Sun. Antares is a
red supergiant star
that is nearing the end
of its life. Located
approximately 460 light
years from Earth, the
cloud complex contains
emissions, reflection
and dark nebulas. The
globular cluster M4 is
visible to the right of
Antares; it lies far
beyond the complex,
7,000 light years
from Earth.
