We all carry a device in our pockets
with the ability to take great photos;
as with any form of photography all we
need to do is learn how to maximise
the capability of our tools.
• Make sure you wipe off your lens
regularly. It gets surprisingly dirty.
• Always use the grid feature to help
you compose your shots (most Android
devices have a similar feature too).
• As much as possible, avoid using the
camera’s zoom. Most camera phones
only have digital zoom, not optical zoom,
which will result in overly pixilated shots.
• If you’re shooting with an iPhone, use
the headphones that came with it as a
remote shutter release. This is a great
way to take steadier shots. Plug them in,
open the camera app and press the ‘+’
volume button to snap a pic.
• Hold down the camera’s shutter
to take multiple photos in rapid
succession; perfect for action shots.
• Before fussing with filters, it’s generally
best to properly adjust your photo’s
brightness and saturation settings.

Caracas Entrance
After an hour’s drive from Simón Bolívar
International Airport, you are greeted by
a tunnel that leads into Caracas, the capital
city of Venezuela. Above the tunnel you will
see numerous colourful buildings. Called
favelas, they can be seen throughout the
mountainsides of Caracas. I always enjoy
driving through this tunnel because it
reminds me of the pride that Venezuelans
have and their love of their country, whether
shown by wearing Venezuelan colours,
waving their flag or painting their homes
in unity to resemble the flag of Venezuela.
