Salam Garuda Indonesia
VOICE OF GARUDA
Dear valued Garuda Indonesia customers,
In the past decade, almost without us
noticing, rapid changes have taken place
in our country, and across the world. As
technology advances, young people, a
generation known as ‘millennials’, have
changed their lives through a digital world
that continues to grow and develop.
We are ready to welcome 2019, when it
is estimated that the population of the
millennial generation will be the largest
in Indonesia. Over the coming decade,
by 2030, the millennial population will
reach 70 per cent of the total population
of Indonesia.
This pattern has been reflected at
Garuda Indonesia where this young
generation has reached 51 per cent of the
total number of employees. Based on
these figures, the work culture of the
millennial generation is an important
consideration in terms of the dynamics of
a corporate organisation.
In this vein, Garuda Indonesia is
committed to harnessing the dynamic
pace of the millennial generation by
providing an environment in which they
can grow, develop and fulfil their potential
within the company.
A fluid work culture that offers many and
varied opportunities for employees is one
of the keys to the development of a
two-way communication pattern that the
company is currently implementing.
In addition, the management of
Garuda Indonesia, whose aim is always to
make its employees happy, offers all staff
the means by which they can attain a
work-life balance, in the form of co-
working space and flexible office hours,
as well as by adjusting the style of dress
in the office.
Such policies have attracted many
inspiring millennials to the company, and
they have now succeeded in reaching
middle-level positions and even strategic
positions one level below the directors
– while still in their thirties. To name a
few, they are Mukhtaris Aris, Vice
President (VP) of Acquisition & Aircraft
Management (34); Mitra Piranti, VP of
Business Support & General Affairs (30);
Tengku Valmy Andali, VP of Treasury
Management (30); and Mega Hapsari, VP
of Corporate Legal & Compliance (29), as
well as a number of other VPs.
This generation has positively contributed
to the improvement of the company’s
performance, a trend that will continue.
Not only does Garuda Indonesia provide a
workplace in which these young people
can achieve fulfilment in their career, but
it also offers a place in which young
people can channel their millennial spirit
through various social activities.
An example of this is the GA Circle
community, in which committed
millennials with an interest in
humanitarian activities can participate.
Many of these activities take place in areas
with limited infrastructure and facilities.
One of GA Circle’s activities is ‘Carving
Smiles on Lombok’. Through this
initiative, the community has invited
Garuda Indonesia employees to participate
in trauma healing programmes, targeted
at children, in the aftermath of the
earthquake that struck Lombok this year
an educational approach was taken,
including building a mini library, reading,
playing together and watching together.
The goal is to reduce the trauma felt by
the children of Lombok following the
earthquake that destroyed their homes.
Social missions were also carried out by
Garuda Indonesia flight crew members in
eastern Indonesia, in which they helped to
develop reading parks and gave
inspirational classes for children in
the Kei Island interior.
Furthermore, international success has
also been achieved by the millennial
generation of Garuda Indonesia who
are members of the Garuda Badminton
Club. They won the overall championship
in the World Airline Badminton
Championship in Thailand with two
gold medals, one silver medal and two
bronze medals.
These activities, carried out by
the millennial generation of
Garuda Indonesia, are proof that the
youthful spirit that is aligned with a
flexible work culture can produce tangible
achievements and make a beneficial
contribution to the company. Such
successes inspire others and become
more than the achievements of this
generation alone.
Merry Christmas 2018 and New Year
2019. May the world be better and
always peaceful.
Best wishes,
